Festival International des Jardins 2024 - April 24 to November 3

Edition 2024: Garden as source of life

An emblematic event on the estate, the Festival International des Jardins is a not-to-be-missed international gathering dedicated to creativity, imagination, poetry and nature. Renowned since 1992 by professionals and garden enthusiasts alike, each year it welcomes landscape gardeners and designers from all over the world.

“Without a doubt, the garden brings together in a prodigiously condensed way a considerable number of living forces. Perhaps it’s the place of life par excellence.

The garden is a place of pollination, multiplication and exponential development of vegetation in all its diversity, as well as home to animal life and its allies: bees, butterflies, beetles, ants, earthworms, birds and other associates. The garden is at the heart of a nature that nourishes, heals, soothes and resources. Insects, in particular, are essential to the balance of life on earth, and indispensable to human nutrition in particular. Over the past thirty years, more than 75% of Europe’s flying insects have disappeared.

Our duty is therefore to preserve, in every way and with determination, the garden and its allies, a fragile and fundamental place of life and survival, which provides us with much-needed shade, freshness and softness, but which also produces our food, particularly vegetables and fruit. So we need to protect trees and flowers. While we must, of course, preserve water, essential nourishment for plants, we must also think of the garden holistically, as a complex ecosystem in which the elements interact with one another. The garden, source of life, is an essential contributor to vitality, dynamism and energy.

The challenge facing the designers of Gardens 2024 was to illustrate this challenge by proposing projects that synthesized all these factors.

All the virtues, all the qualities linked to the life forces inherent in the garden have, in fact, been envisaged and enhanced by the project designers. They have also demonstrated imagination and innovation, highlighting both proven know-how and new techniques for preserving and developing living things, with the aim of helping people understand the importance and diversity of the animal and plant life forces that animate gardens. Thanks to the quality of the plants and materials used, and the originality of their scenarios, they have been able to surprise and amaze visitors. At Chaumont-sur-Loire, creativity and poetry are essential vectors for understanding the fundamental role of gardens as an irreplaceable source of life and survival”.
