The Grand Siècle Event
Saturday 23 May 2026
Every year, this event is eagerly anticipated by lovers of the 17th century! A unique experience of the French art de vivre during the reigns of Louis XIV and Nicolas Fouquet. The festivities will continue until nightfall in an intimate, candlelit atmosphere.
On Saturday 23 May 2026, Vaux-le-Vicomte—a family home and a renowned venue for festivities in the time of Nicolas Fouquet—invites you to step back in time to the era of the Sun King and the artists of the Grand Siècle. Every year, thousands of visitors in costume and many curious onlookers flock to the castle gates, dressed in their finest attire to experience a memorable day at a 17th-century court in the ideal setting of the palace that inspired the Palace of Versailles.
On the programme for the 2026 edition: invitations to courtly dancing, processions of musketeers, carriage rides, falconry displays, performers on stilts, a costume parade, a baroque dance performance by students from the Cie Fêtes Baroques-Chrystelle Arcelin dance school, a garden illuminated by candlelight, water features in the estate’s ponds, a fire juggler, and a gold and silver fireworks display at 11.00 pm.
At 6 pm, everyone in fancy dress will be invited to stroll through the French formal garden.
